A July evening in Manhattan - Manhattanhenge !!!

Sights  of a beautiful July Manhattan evening !!!!

Twice a year, an extraordinary event happens in Manhattan, the sun set is precisely aligned to the Manhattan East - West street grid...of course, this is more visible looking West on the wider streets like 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd and 57th.

Hundreds of people are out here trying to capture, on their I Phone, the moment known as Manhattanhenge. The name of this phenomenal, Manhattanhenge, was given by an astronomer at the Museum of Natural History.

Of course, such an event had to be on my "bucket list" of things to do. My destination to witness the sunset was Park Avenue and 57th Street.

One 57 apartment tower on North side of 57th Street.

The setting sun sets off a radiant glow on buildings and the street pavement.

If you are planing to witness the same some day, my advice is to go early, watch the traffic patterns, even in NYC people turn right on red, without stopping!  You will have to stand in the middle of the
street to get any good shots, so, get a sense of the time it takes for a traffic light to change.

The small distant building in the middle of 57th street that the sun is setting behind, is actually in New Jersey...

While standing in the street keep a lookout for bicyclists, rollerbladers,  crazy people on mini scooters and people with selfie sticks.

There were other sights to see!
30 Rock with palm tree garden in the plaza.

Recently restored beautiful 136 year old St. Patrick's Cathedral.

St. Patrick's Cathedral marble facade.

Rockefeller Center's Atlas with the world on his shoulder in front of the majestic Cathedral.

Times Square packed with tourist.  New Year's Eve is five and a half months away.

All in all, and inspiring evening.......
