Out and about !!

This weekend, we explored new territory.  Saturday, we played 18 holes of golf at The Town Of Palm Beach's Par 3 course located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. This tract is billed as "one of the best Par 3 courses in the US."

We agree, with holes from 81 to 211 yards in length, it is a real test of a golfer's short game. Several holes parallel the ocean beach.
Originally built in 1961, the course was completely renovated  in 2009.  It is a beautiful piece of real estate.

 The stiff ocean breeze will alter the flight path of your ball!

It doesn't get much better than this beautifully landscaped tropical setting with a ocean breeze.

One of the hidden jewels of PGA National is Master's Park which is located off Ryder Cup at the far south end of the property.

Master Park probably covers an area the size of a city block.  It is made up of numerous small gardens of tropical and native Florida plants and shrubs, a winding walk path, a physical fitness trail and memorial benches.  Join us on a walk !

First two art exhibits well attended !

Considerable time and effort went into the preparation for our first two art exhibits of the Fall 2011 Season. Both events were very well attended.  We wish to thank all our friends for their great support and kind words.

The PGA National Members club house was the site of 2011 Members Art Exhibit.

It was very convenient with our exhibit spaces adjoining.

Connie was exhibiting her "mixed media" work which were photographs printed on water color paper and enhanced with pastels. 

The subject matter and the finished product proved to be very popular with the attendees.

John was exhibiting a wide variety of his photographic work.

The following evening we attended the opening of the Landscapes 2011 Exhibit at the Lighthouse for the Arts Gallery in Tequesta.  John has two pieces that were selected for this juried exhibition.

You will find excellent paintings of various types and techniques, photographs, ceramics and sculpture at The Lighthouse Art Center.  Scroll below.

It is always a fun evening at "Tequesta" with artists and guests mingling and discussing the strengths of the various exhibited works.

  There is always a large variety of work on exhibit. Something to meets everyone's fancy.

Back in Florida !!!

After a delightful Summer with family and friends, we are back in Florida!

We left in the Spring with Florida experiencing the worst drought conditions in 80 years.  We arrived back to find the water levels at, or above normal.

                               Last Spring, this swamp area was bone dry!

 

           With the last month of hurricane season approaching torrential rains were everyday occurrences.

                                  Its good for the ducks.

              

                            Our first Fall event was to celebrate Connie's birthday.

         The Breaker's Seafood Grill's Key Lime Pie served as an appropriate Florida "birthday cake."

      Before long, Connie was back at work in her studio. Here she is working "multi media," pastels on photographs.  These are in preparation for PGA National's Annual Member's Art Exhibit, November 16th

In the mean time, we are also busy with our activities at Tequesta's Lighthouse for the Arts.

We got into the swing of things attending the artist's appreciation cocktail party bash at the Lighthouse.   Here we are with friends Nancy and Bill Jones.  Bill is a skilled "woodturner."

Lighthouse events are always a culinary treat. Better or more tasty appetizers or hors d'oeuvres can not be found anyplace.

     The third Thursday of  every month you will find us here.  November 17th we will be here for the Landscapes 2011 opening reception.

If you are going to visit NYC, plan ahead!

Did you ever think someone would suggest you to visit a subway station?  Well, that is just what I am about to do.

This Summer, Connie and I have discovered one of the City's hidden treasures, art work in the subway.

We came across ceramic tiles, in the 34th Street 1, 2, & 3 Train Station,  by a Catskill area artist whom we have met and actually own a few of his works very much like on the subway wall.

Yesterday, I found in the C Train station near the Museum of National History, 79th St. the following;

This is a beautiful ceramic mosaic and wasn't the only one in this station.

On the MTA, Metropolitan Transit Authority, web site you will find a listing of artists, and their works,  who will be found is in individual subway stations.  And, I doubt if you will want to visit hundreds of underground MTA stations looking for art.

But it is something to be aware of and would make a very interesting underground excursion.

A beautiful day for a stroll in Central Park

Sunday, October 9th, was simply a gorgeous day! Temperatures in the mid 70's to mid 80's, not a cloud in the sky. Due to all the late Summer rains we have had, it was a bit early for the appearance of the Fall foliage. Nature's beauty and people were in abundance. 

Take the stroll with us from Columbus Circle to Belvedere Castle, passing the ponds and lake, taking in the bridges, fountains. monuments and people.
